Travelling for Umrah with children or elderly parents is a blessing, but it needs a little more planning.
Transport
- Book a private car from the airport so nobody waits in queues after a long flight.
- Choose a vehicle with space: a GMC Yukon or Hyundai Staria 7-seater for up to 7 people, a Staria 11-seater or Toyota Hiace for larger families.
- Tell us about wheelchairs, prams or child seats when booking.
Hotels
Stay as close to the Haram as your budget allows — every extra minute of walking matters for elderly pilgrims and small children.
In the Haram
- Wheelchairs are available in Masjid al-Haram; wheelchair users usually perform tawaf on the upper levels.
- Do tawaf at quieter times — late at night or mid-morning.
- Agree a fixed meeting point (for example a numbered gate) in case anyone gets separated, and write your hotel name and phone number on a card for each child.
Health
- Drink plenty of water and Zamzam, and rest between prayers.
- Carry regular medicines in hand luggage with a copy of prescriptions.
