Jabal al-Nour & Cave Hira
Jabal al-Nour, the Mountain of Light, rises on the north-eastern edge of Makkah. Near its summit is Cave Hira, where the Prophet ﷺ used to retreat and where the first verses of the Qur'an were revealed.
The climb is steep: most visitors need one to two hours to go up and a little less to come down. At the foot of the mountain the Hira Cultural District has an exhibition about the revelation, shops and cafés, so family members who do not climb can wait in comfort.

- Wear proper shoes and carry water; there are steps but the path is uneven.
